The host, David Marks, would frequently engage in a process that was very new to me at the time: power-sculpting (aka power carving). I was so excited by this process that I drove all the way up to Santa Rosa to learn the technique from the man himself. So what you see in this video is largely inspired by the work of David Marks. My goal with this project was to make some subtle changes that result in big improvements. I did something very similar with a step-stool project a couple years ago (http://www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/sitting-bench-step-stool-pt-1). The idea was to apply my current knowledge base and design sensibilities to simply make the bench better, or at least my personal interpretation of "better." Power-Sculpting Tools The two primary tools I use are an angle grinder (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BM6BMI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000BM6BMI&linkCode=as2&tag=thewoodwhispe-20) and a 7" polisher (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052RXM10/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0052RXM10&linkCode=as2&tag=thewoodwhispe-20). I use an Arborech TurboPlane in the grinder but there are lots of other options available to you.
