Training in El Salvador preparing students for Germany

A group a 18 school leavers in San Salvador, capital of El Salvador, attended an intensive training in “Basics of Geriatric Care” in both languages Spanish and German. The group is preparing themselves to go to Germany to undergo a 3-year vocational training for becoming “Staatlich geprüfte Altenpfleger.” As a precondition they have been learning German for more than a year and reached the standard level of German speaking of B1. The training in ViVET now gave them a chance to gain introductory knowledge into German senior citizen care in German. Especially the videos in the lessons were demonstrating real work situations plus they were also showing German everyday life. .

The explanatory texts were first edited in German and later translated into Spanish. The specialty of this course was that both language versions were kept and stated in parallels in each widget. Thus the students could compare whether they understand the German already well enough and they already learned special technical terms. The initial translation from German into Spanish was done by Google translator with kind of satisfactory results. FORUM was very fortunate to employ a native Spanish speaking student from Mexico who was well able to upgrade the translation to full standards. All students proudly passed the final test and received their ViVET-certificates.
